HPG carries carbon, hydrogen and energy into the complete fermentation stack. Methanogenic, acetogenic and aerobic Microbial Workers then convert that value into renewable fuels, chemicals and materials.
This is what makes Swing, Swing, Swing possible. A common, qualified gas supply can be directed towards different microbial pathways according to plant configuration, gas quality, operational requirements and market demand.
Once gas becomes the common currency of the business, it can no longer be treated as a basic utility. It becomes a strategic corporate asset.
The CUMULUS Team is responsible for that asset.
One Team Across Every CAMPUS
The CUMULUS Team works on site across the Syngas Project platform family. It provides one point of responsibility for the gases entering, moving through and leaving each CAMPUS.
The Team supports commissioning, establishes common operating standards and protects gas quality throughout normal operation. It manages the interfaces between gasification, gas conditioning, storage, fermentation, utilities, loading systems and downstream markets.
Its on-site responsibilities include:
- qualifying synthesis gas before it enters a microbial pathway;
- protecting the quality and stability of HPG supplied to fermentation;
- managing the shared HPG and synthesis-gas spine;
- coordinating oxygen and LOX supply through the oxygen down-line;
- recovering and routing biogenic CO₂ through the CO₂ up-line;
- managing gas buffers, compression, liquefaction, storage and loading;
- directing gas between methanogenic, acetogenic and aerobic pathways;
- coordinating RNG, CRNG, LRNG, CO₂ and LCO₂ movements;
- supporting commissioning, maintenance and operating recovery; and
- connecting plant performance with gas suppliers, logistics partners and offtakers.
The local operating team remains responsible for running the facility. CUMULUS provides the specialist gas capability that allows every facility to operate within one portfolio-wide system.
This distinction matters as the business grows. Without a central gas team, knowledge becomes fragmented, technical standards begin to diverge and lessons learned at one location are slow to reach another.
CUMULUS ensures that experience gained at one CAMPUS strengthens every other CAMPUS.
From Synthesis Gas to Hydrogen Producer Gas
Gasification does not automatically produce Hydrogen Producer Gas.
It produces synthesis gas.
Synthesis gas is a generic description. Its composition depends on the feedstock, gasifier, operating conditions, moisture content, oxygen or air input and the performance of the gas-conditioning system.
Within Syngas Project, HPG is an internally qualified industrial gas specification. Synthesis gas becomes HPG only when the feedstock is approved, operating conditions are controlled, composition is understood, contaminants are managed and the gas demonstrates consistent performance in its intended downstream process.
Microbial fermentation does not reward an attractive theoretical composition. It rewards stability.
A gas stream must support predictable biological performance, reliable conversion and consistent product quality over time. HPG is therefore defined by the relationship between three elements:
The gas, the conditioning system and the Microbial Worker using it.
TITAN provides the first benchmark. Its forest-residue supply chain is understood, its gasification conditions can be controlled and its gas profile can be qualified against the microbial pathways deployed on the platform.
As ASMARA, IGNIS, AQUIS, CUMULUS and STRATA introduce new forms of misplaced carbon, the CUMULUS Team applies the same discipline.
A gas suitable for one microbial pathway may not be suitable for another. Some streams may require additional conditioning. Others may become usable as microbial tolerance and fermentation technology advance.
The standard is disciplined, but it is not static.
CUMULUS protects the standard and manages its evolution.
Managing the Complete Gas Portfolio
Every CAMPUS produces and consumes several gases. Some carry renewable carbon into fermentation. Some support gasification. Some provide process energy. Others must be recovered, compressed, liquefied, stored or routed to a higher-value use.
CUMULUS manages these streams as one connected portfolio.
HPG and synthesis gas connect gasification with biology. Oxygen improves gasification and supports aerobic fermentation. Methanogenic fermentation produces Renewable Natural Gas. Compression creates CRNG for transport and field operations. Liquefaction creates LRNG for storage, marine, export and energy-infrastructure markets.
Fermentation also creates recoverable biogenic CO₂ that can be conditioned and liquefied as LCO₂.
These are not isolated process streams. They are parts of one industrial system.
The objective is not simply to produce gas. The objective is to understand where every molecule creates its highest technical and commercial value.
At one moment, gas may be required to stabilise on-site operation. At another, it may be directed to methanogenic or acetogenic fermentation. RNG may be compressed, liquefied or used within the CAMPUS. Biogenic CO₂ may support external renewable-methane or e-Fuels infrastructure. Oxygen supplied from renewable electrolysis may strengthen gasification and the Oxygen Side of the fermentation stack.
CUMULUS manages these relationships in real time and plans how they should develop as the portfolio expands.
BRAD: Carbon Intelligence for the Gas Team
Managing multiple feedstocks, gas compositions, microbial pathways, storage systems and downstream markets creates a level of complexity that requires continuous analysis as well as engineering experience.
This is where BRAD supports the CUMULUS Team.
BRAD is Syngas Project’s Carbon Intelligence platform. It tracks how misplaced carbon and industrial gases move through the portfolio. It compares feedstock characteristics, gas composition, contaminant tolerances, microbial requirements, process performance, logistics and market destinations.
BRAD does not replace the CUMULUS engineers. It gives them a continuously developing evidence base.
It helps the Team identify:
- which gas streams meet the HPG qualification standard;
- which streams require further conditioning;
- which Microbial Workers can use each gas reliably;
- where operating performance is beginning to move outside the expected range;
- whether gas should be used, stored, upgraded, liquefied or sold; and
- where new microbial capabilities could unlock a higher-value pathway.
CUMULUS manages the gas. BRAD reads the system.
Together they allow Syngas Project to expand the usable Misplaced Carbon Spectrum without weakening operational discipline.
From Operating Discipline to Commercial Advantage
The CUMULUS Team is not only a technical support function. Its operating knowledge creates commercial value.
Gas quality determines which pathways are available. Qualification creates confidence for Microbial Workers, operators, buyers, partners, regulators and financiers.
Portfolio-wide knowledge helps Syngas Project decide when a molecule should remain inside the CAMPUS and when it should enter an external market.
This creates opportunities across HPG, RNG, CRNG, LRNG, biogenic CO₂, LCO₂, oxygen, gas upgrading, liquefaction, storage and logistics. It also creates the technical foundation for future industrial off-gas projects.
The commercial role depends on operational discipline. A valuable gas market requires repeatable quality, reliable measurement, controlled logistics and clear evidence.
