Belgium has a land area of 30,689 km² and is a compact, relatively flat country. Under the TITAN 100 km CAMPUS planning model, Belgium is a 3-CAMPUS country. 1. Country & CAMPUS Geography
Belgium covers 30,689 km².
The country is relatively flat, particularly across northern and central Belgium. Elevation increases toward the Ardennes in the southeast, but this does not materially restrict the TITAN CAMPUS model.
Belgium is therefore classified as a 3-CAMPUS country, with all three CAMPUS areas usable for deployment.
This creates an important development advantage. A relatively small number of CAMPUS locations can provide access to the national forest, industrial wood, municipal woody residue and reclaimed wood markets while remaining connected to Belgium’s exceptional road, rail, port and industrial infrastructure.
2. Primary Forest Opportunity
Belgium has 700,000 ha of forest, supporting 4.7 TITAN clusters from primary forest residues.
The resource is divided almost equally between the public and private sectors:
- Public forest: 346,000 ha — 2.3 clusters
- Private forest: 354,000 ha — 2.4 clusters
The principal geographic opportunity is Wallonia, containing 79.8% of Belgian forest.
This concentration is advantageous for TITAN. The first Belgian development does not need to establish a national forest supply chain. It can establish its primary forest position in Wallonia and progressively expand into the wider Belgian secondary-resource markets.
The private forest sector is fragmented across more than 100,000 owners. Public forest therefore provides the clearest initial route to establishing contracted forest-floor residue supply, while private forest becomes an additional aggregated supply market.
3. Sawmill Residues
Belgium’s roundwood economy creates a substantial secondary resource immediately downstream of the forest.
The Belgian sawmill residue market provides 1.27 million tonnes/year, sufficient to support 8.5 TITAN clusters.
This is already substantially larger than the country’s primary forest-floor opportunity.
Sawmill residues therefore represent the first major contingency market below the forest floor and an important strategic supply position for TITAN.
4. Wood Manufacturing Residues
Belgium also has a significant downstream wood-products economy.
Wood manufacturing provides 0.59 million tonnes/year of available industrial residue, sufficient for 4.0 TITAN clusters.
This market is more competitive than forest-floor residue but is strategically important because it provides geographically concentrated industrial material with established collection and logistics infrastructure.
5. Park & Avenue
Belgium’s dense urban environment produces a substantial continuing stream of non-forest woody material.
The Park & Avenue market provides 0.42 million tonnes/year, sufficient for 2.8 TITAN clusters.
This includes municipal tree management, roadside vegetation, railway corridors, utility corridors, parks, urban forestry, waterway maintenance and other necessary infrastructure-management activities.
The material is generated regardless of TITAN demand and therefore represents an attractive circular-carbon resource.
6. Reclaimed Wood
Belgium’s dense building stock, construction activity and established waste-management sector create a significant reclaimed-wood market.
The identified reclaimed resource is 0.85 million tonnes/year, sufficient for 5.6 TITAN clusters.
Reclaimed wood therefore becomes one of Belgium’s largest secondary TITAN resource pools and provides an important long-term circular supply position.

Its four secondary wood markets support a further 20.9 clusters.

Belgium should therefore be developed as a compact national circular-carbon market: establish the primary forest-floor position in Wallonia, then use the three-CAMPUS network to capture the substantially larger downstream and circular wood opportunity.
